Hop In Your Well Maintained Car For A Great Mini Vacation

May 11th, 2011 Nick Messe

Spring has finally arrived and summer can't be far off. It won't be long until we all catch "the bug". No, not the infamous flu that is on the loose, but the good old travel bug. You know it, that foot loose and fancy free feeling that urges all of us to forget our worries and take off for some adventure.

If you're anything like me, you'll be emptying out your map and brochure drawer, dumping all that stuff onto the kitchen table, and planning out a route.

A lot of us are feeling the pinch of the poor economy. Maybe we've had our wages or working hours cut back, or maybe sales have seriously slipped. If this is the case with you, then an all-out, no holds barred vacation, complete with airfare, hotel, rental car, is definitely not in the cards.

But, if you have a little money set aside, and a little time to slip away, then why not plan something a little less expensive, and still a whole lot of fun. Take advantage of your resources, including your vehicle, and explore the area that surrounds you. Take a day trip, or take a few!

It is nothing short of amazing the things you'll discover within an hour of your home. If you live in a small city, or town, you may not have to venture any further than fifteen or twenty minutes. Look at your home environs from the eyes of a tourist.

If you were suddenly plunked down in any town or city, you'd fine tons of interesting things to experience, because every place is unique. The truth is that in our usual work week, we just don't have time to play tourist and visit the attractions that other folks shell out many dollars to come and see.

For example, many people who have lived for years and years in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, have never driven the twenty minutes it takes to get to the famous tourist area of St. Jacobs, Ontario. These same people probably have never sampled the maple treats, or tramped around in a sugar bush at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

Or, you may reside near Washington, DC, but have never taken the opportunity to explore it as a tourist. It is one of the most influential cities on earth and with all the excitement of a new president, it's a timely place to vacation. Take the subway in and then hop onto the special trolley bus that will take you past the monuments, the capitol building, and the White House.

Wherever you live, there are places just waiting for you to explore. If you've been keeping your vehicle in good running condition, maybe all you need is a quick oil change and tire pressure check. Then, grab your road map, and be on your way.
